A suitcase with 45 pairs of Latvian Mittens from the Latvian folk art museum collection of the American Latvian Association has been travelling across the United States to US Latvian centers and arrives in Boston for the Baltic Centennial. This traveling exhibit is presented as part of the celebration of the Republic of Latvia’s 100 th anniversary.
Beloved Latvian author and poet Imants Ziedonis wrote: “Latvians go out in to the world wearing patterned mittens and throw them into the treasure chest of cultures along with Persian rugs, Indian and Japanese silks, Chinese porcelain, and Russian woodcuts.” Latvia in Mittens,The Ministry of Culture’s Office Latvia 100.
